HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
After caring for Chilli for 12 years, I was fairly certain that I would not have any more animals to tie me down. Little did I know what the DOG GODs had in store for me.
Chilli was cremated and her ashes are buried on the hill overlooking the camp fire and Turner Creek. She was buried with her collar and a Hawk feather. My friend Luke Tiger said to me that American natives always believe the soul will return again if you place a feather of a bird of prey into the grave.
A year later Chilli's soul walked into my house dressed in a redder coat, but speaking the exact same words. Kieshe (Cree for "from the heavens") , approximately 4 months old, the same age Chili was when she found us, walked up the stairs and sat at the top behind me while I was working at my desk. I sensed someone in the room. She never left, I never found anyone who had ever seen her before, and she had no interest in leaving my side.
The Hawk had delivered.
Soon after I began to contact people for a male pal for Kieshe. I had her spayed, and we adopted Wiley from Florida.
Wiley had been stuck on a chain in the hot Florida sun for a year. The result of 3 owners and a divorce. Wiley instantly loved Kieshe and they have been happily sharing space on the creek since spring 2006.
Well all good Wolf Dog homes seem to warrant visits from Wolf Dog folks. And soon we were asked to "FOSTER" 2 more. A second pen was constructed, and a second log house. And I was about to learn a lesson about trusting Wolf Dog FOSTERING...
Basically you are stuck, and in a dishonest and underminded way. Although I am not sorry I saved 2 animals from possible death, I am angry that I was duped into it the way I was. I am angry that this person continues to do this to many people, and is causing as much harm to the animals as she is good.
With that off my chest, we have Dakota and Meinjein. They are what is known as NOLO Wolfdogs. Animals that have little or no Wolf heritage worth mentioning.
Shortly after, we had the CHOICE, to take our first high% Wolfdog. And although I was a bit overwhelmed with 4, I was still convinced that 2 were temporary. So Kooey was brought from Ohio where her purchasers could not handle her extreme spirit.
Then there were 5.
Pen 3 was constucted in the spring of 2007. Kooey was part of the 3 , Dakota & Meinjein, until she outgrew Meinji's mothering.
Within a week, I saw an ad in a local paper. Pure Timber Wolf 4 sale.
Oh oh.... Now an anti Wolf abuse guy, I went to work. Jumped into a nearby closet to put on my SuperDog suit, and emerged once again the rescuer of a mid WD. His name (surprise) was Dakota also. After all, there are only 3 names for Wolf Dogs. Timber, Dakota, and Cheyenne.
So we had to rename this little weasel. Re using the long "O" for recall reasons, I call him Bo.
Bo was abused by several wannabes. He ended up tied to a fence behind a trashcan trailer that was inhabited by dirtbags. After the teenage pregnant kid begged me to take him away, her mother accused me of stealing him. Oh Bo...
He's doing much better after extensive Veterinary care for parasites, and some aggression training. Bo now shares space with Kooey. Bo was # 6.
After a year of learning, and getting comfortable with my new lifestyle, I recieved photos of an animal in distress. This animal was more beautiful than any I had ever seen before. I set the email aside, but a week or 2 later I inquired as to the status of this girl. Lo and behold, we were headed east to bring here home. Dyami was number 7.
Dyami didn't settle in too well. Her disposition was extremely skittish, and her heart was broken. She paced the top of the hill 24 / 7 for many weeks looking for her human. To this day she has only taken to 1 person after a full day standoff to remove a collar.
In an attempt to help Dyami settle in, I brought a HC male pup for her to raise. "KD" who is named after Sgt. Kevin Downs, has made life for Dyami somewhat easier. She loves her KD.
KD is # 8.
On May 14th 2008, we got a distress SOS to help save a pup from a Georgia shelter. He was a young 6-7 month old Mal low content with a terrible case of Demodex. Ringo was brought here in May and is doing well now. He will hopefully be going to his forever home as he is very adoptable.
Ringo is #9.
On Sept 12, another distress call from concerned folks about a "Wolf" tied to a tree in Mississippi. After seeing photos, I was convinced there was not much Wolf involved, however by the 19th, Shiloh, a 7 year old female trapped in the crossfire of domestic violence was rescued and transported here by one of women who worked dilligently to get her out of her mess. Shiloh is now Ringo's older gal, and she is # 10.
February 2010, after a long cold 3 months, I decided to build another enclosure on the hill. With an extra space, I could move them around and fix the other pens.
Ohoh,,,,,,,space is magnetic, and seems to never be extra. We were Indiana bound, and Nanadi was coming home with us in the No. 11 spot. Darn, she's lonely in that big pen all by herself.
