WHO CAN WE TRUST?
Anyone can build a website and appear to be a good facility for animals with their well being a top priority. Sadly there are many stories past and present that leave us asking "How did this happen"?
The proper care of animals can take on many faces depending on who and where this caring facility is. In some parts of the U.S. people do not YET see the damages that certain treatment results in or how to avoid certain problems. The value of animal's lives are less than in places where education has prevailed.
In some countries, it is still acceptable to inhumanely slaughter animals for food or biproducts.
I have an old saying, "if you lie down with Heroin addicts, it will soon be OK to shoot Heroin".
Somewhere in the rumor zone it is believed that there is financial reward in animal rescue. ?#$$%$%???
Many have entered in to the money pit expecting to be placed on a pedestal and money thrown at them. While the truth is, it takes everything most have to endure the responsibility of endless mouths to feed and provide 365 day a year care.
In the wake of the "Sanctuary" myth, lies hundreds or thousands of dead animals whose humans have failed them repeatedly. Be it fate, greed, or mental illness, the end is always the same.
I like to believe there are more good humans who love and care for their companions then there are bad, but in the world of rescue we only get to see the ugliness and suffering that will make most of us angry and doubting.
No one should take on the responsibility of other lives without full understanding the long term commitment.
On a daily basis the rescue of Wolf Dogs is challenged by the myths spread by breeders and the victims left in their wake.
People do not take kindly to the truth about their "Wolf" or "Wolf Hybrid" not being what they were told, sold or believed for many years. This is a huge problem with Wolf/Dog crosses, and Northern Breed dogs that are often deliberately bred to look Wolfie so high dollars can be asked for pups.
Sadly the majority of people who believe they have Wolves or high % Wolf Hybrids do not. Many have no Wolf blood at all except ancestral. Yes we know that all dogs come from Wolves, and all the other stories that back yard breeders use to bilk big bucks from people too lazy to research what they are doing before buying their "Wolf".
So you say??? What's the big deal? Who cares?
In the U.S. and Canada, there are an estimated 400,000 so called Wolf Hybrids. They are the number 1 dog to be abandoned, dumped in shelters or killed due to owner stupidity. Most shelters are not allowed to adopt any animal claimed to be a Wolf mix to the public. Only registered sanctuaries can take them.
If a person dumps a Chiuaua off at a county shelter, and claims it is part Wolf, the shelter is bound by law to treat that dog as a dangerous animal.
So in 2008 the rescue sanctuaries across America became buried in "DOGS" that people claimed were part Wolf.
High dollar expensive kennels, built for the security of Wolves, now occupied by Huskies, Shepherds, Malamutes, and combinations sold as Wolves.
When you try to educate people to prevent this, they retaliate with rude and stupid messages.
YOUTUBE is full of these fools who claim their dogs are Wolves, or Part or various numeric % that they have no clue what or how that is even achieved. They would rather try to spread their stupidity to others because they have one so that makes them an expert.

There are hundreds of breeders who lie. They are all over the place, easy to contact, and they sell mixed breed dogs for 300. to 1000.
The worst are in Texas, California, Tennessee, North Carolina, Utah, but they are everywhere.
Several times every year we read about a Wolf Hybrid being shot and killed by law enforcement because it was running loose. More than half the time it is NOT a Wolf anything. Simply because the owner of the dog was too lazy to learn the truth, or simply let his / her EGO label the animal as a Wolf, it destroyed the dogs chances at life.
If law enforcement officers, even Wildlife officers were properly educated, there would be no need to kill any animal. Unfortunately the Wolf myth will always plague the animals. Once wiped out by man for fur, now feared by ignorance.
Police officers , Wildlife officers, Animal Control officers, even your Veterinarians DO NOT know how to tell a Wolf Dog from many Northern Breeds. It is not their job, it is not in their training. Often they will call a local rescuer if one exists near the incident, but most often neighbors with children or elderly, simply fear for their lives because there is a WOLF loose.
As I write this, Feb 2, 2009, 9:32 AM. I recieve a rescue message about a 100% Red Arctic in Colorado????
please see if you can find any such animal.
Feb 2 , evening 8:12 PM, in my area, a back yard breeder is losing his home to the bank. He has 3 intact adults and 2 pups 18 mos. he claims are high %......... Photos sho 3 adult mid contents, 2 pups with low % markings.
A breeder who has no idea what he is doing. As a result county Sheriffs are on the seen with rifles. No rescuer is permitted near the property. Animals are murdered.
There are only 6 legitimate breeders of high content Wolf Dogs in the U.S. that I know about. Most others have stopped due to the amount of abuse of breeding and the lack of good homes. There are 3 reputable mid content breeders.
There are 3 breeders of high contents that breed nice animals and sell to anyone with no cares about what happens to their pups. These breeders need to be chained to a tree without food and water. They care NOT what happens to their animals once sold.
Reputable breeders will take responsibility for animals in trouble. They do research about buyers of their animals to make certain the pups are going to good homes.
With the information age at your fingertips, there is no excuse not to know what your animal is, and how to properly care for it.
If you would like an approximate phenotype eval of your Wolfdog, you are welcome to send photos and we will get a variety of opinions from those know.
