Bob "Bulldog" Ousley
Most people spend their lives never truly knowing anyone that we call "HERO" . unfortunately Heros are normally recognized too late. Even now, after centuries of battle, we don't truly recognize our Heros unless they sacrifice life itself.
As an active Patriot Guard member, I have lately shared too many days saying goodbye to Heros. Sgt. Kevin Downs, a man who stands taller sitting in his chair than any of us will ever realize, is a story beyond any Hero's story I can imagine. Truth can often be un politically correct, but there is no real way for the average person to digest the war inside a man who survives, only to continue the fight for survival forever. To most, death would be a blessed alternative, but then Sgt. Downs is anything but an average human. Through over a year of painful operations and day to day rehab, therapy, and hurdles few men could tolerate, Kevin defies defeat, inspires the world, brings a town, a city, a state, a country together to a height of support never known to the American soldier. He is one of a breed of Hero that will lead in one way or another. His story will be told, over and over. I have followed his trials through thoughtful small town press, and have today, finally had a moment to shake the hand of a man I consider to be the most important person I have ever met. The Wolf is a free spirit, strong, cunning, aware, passionate, and a survivor. At SOJOURN we are welcoming a male F1 Grey Wolfdog. He is to live his life here in our sanctuary with Dyami, a female F1 Grey/Arctic mix. Our new pup will be named "KD" , after a great American Hero. http://www.homeforahero.com/kevin.html |
