there are a few loose screws getting mega media coverage. These fools are damaging to Wolves, and will eventually be tragedies. http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/indeks/131518 http://animal.discovery.com/tv/wolfman/ Don't be fooled by Television. These are idiots. ................................................... ATTENTION WOLF "HYBRID" BREEDERS this page is about you. If you are an irresponsible breeder who lies about your animals to make sales, and who contributes to the myths and oversaturated rescues, REMEMBER this. I am currently researching the various legal channels to launch lawsuits against YOU.DECEPTIVE TRADE, ANIMAL ABUSE, FRAUD, and various other charges. Save your puppy money. I am not a supporter of BIG CAT RESCUE because they are all mighty and feel they are the only competent ones. However I am in agreement with the over all idea. this applies to all animals. http://www.bigcatrescue.org/animal_abuse.htm This page is based on opinions, mine and others who have experience in the problems of the Wolf Dog issues. Immoral businesses deserve to be exposed. Making money at the expense of animal's suffering is a tragedy. Making money dishonestly, intentional or simply out of ignorance should be treated as a crime.

BULLSHIT ALERT "With all due respect, you are apparently speaking from ignorance.
There is a difference in breeding schedules from that in the wild.
And if you have several females together they will all try to come into season at the same time to compete for the males attention.
Human females also will cycle the same time of the month when living together.
Now you know..." hahaha what next?
THE CONVERSATION CONTINUES ( quoting what others (above) think of me) "well of course" isn't that the norm? after posting this statement of utter stupidity, he has repeatedly threatened to sue me. FOR?????? so I removed his name. Breeder of low content Wolfdogs who claims they are highs from pure lineage 20 years ago? Careful, he'll show you a white Wolfie looking Husky with a pink nose and blue eyes. Jonestown Texas, who claims 98% decendants of the Buffalo Wolf , Mckenzie Valley, you know all that BS. His pups born in December? all have Husky masks, white ears, and there is a pure white one which doesn't happen in Wolves, not even Arctics are born white. This joker has NOLO WOLF Dogs, 0% - not too high if any%. Another Breeder in Hohenwald Tn. claims high content animals whelped in Fall, wrote. "Steve you need to get a life. For your information they go in season on their birthdays." if you look at her dogs , you'll see 1 or 2 with vague Wolf history. Mostly Shepherd/ Husky mixes you can get free at any animal shelter. The woman at a NC kennels claims that their "rare Raven Black Yukon Timber Wolf" is pure. :) she then sicked her husband on me for laughing at her. By email he threatened me, simply because I called their bluff. The "pure rare Black Yukon" ??? is mostly Dog sorry I did not keep the email. Her claim of high content 97% born in Dec? was that the change in the weather caused her females to go in heat early??? If you do a web search on Rare RAVEN BLACK YUKON WOLF, guess who comes up ...the 2 breeders who made it up. Here is a list of bullshit breeders. Quoted % , pure wolves welping in fall, white pups claimed to be Arctics, you name it. http://www.domesticsale.com/Classifieds/search/wolf-malimute-puppies-for-sale/ Another NC based breeder claiming their pups are 90 plus %. When confronted as to how they thought this was right after seeing the DOGS that had no high content Wolf charcteristics, they argued that the Grandparents were both pure? Well, wouldn't that make the parents pure? They claimed to have DNA tests? geez..... so some moron passed off fake papers to them and they are breeding who knows what? Naturally the conversation ended in "We don't want any more of your BS" . If you are going to purchase a Wolfdog Pup, please contact me first if you wish to be guided to a reputable breeder. weykooey@yahoo.com Understand also that in order for me to help you, I must have a good understanding of your situation and what you are looking for. I recieve inquiries from people who have no idea what they are talkng about, and they then get angry because I ask questions or give my opinion. I repeatedly hear stories from people who claim to be Wolf Dog knowledgable and cannot even accept the fact that their own dogs are not what they were told. Many have no Wolf blood at all. It is truly a tragedy that breeders are either schemers at the animal's expense, or they are ignorant enough to believe that they actually have what they say. The myth often starts way back and is carried on for many years and many generations. The "rare Black Yukon" was actually started by a breeder who I thought was on the up and up? These people obviously got their pure Wolf (husky mix) from them. Abuse is measured in different ways, but nevertheless it is still abuse. Some is unintentional and simply ignorance. Animals suffer regardless of the measure of abuse. It starts with these low impact breeders and ends up like this. EXTREME , not intended to point at the listed above. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DAq-BU8wArg Puppy Mills are not measured by the number of animals, but by the incompetence of the operation. There is a place that claims to be an education preserve for WOLVES. They have no clue what their own animals are as they are clearly Wolfdogs. They are not even high enough content that you cannot tell they are Wolfdogs. Numerous people have attempted to EDUCATE this EDUCATOR, but they get vicious and the woman claims that she has proof? In that state you need a Wildlife permit for Wolfdogs at any %, and Wildlife officers there do not attempt to evaluate Wolfdogs. Veterinarians are not qualified to evaluate animals unless of course they have a personal interest, The only proof available would be DNA. Why would people who inbreed pups from a litter be inclined to get DNA tests? People like this make you understand the reason reality shows have fools who think they can sing. You cannot teach these people truth. They refuse to believe they live in a fantasy. This womain has her own little group of ducklings who think she walks on water, so animals and bad education will be the trade for her little ego trip. The sad facts are that willing to learn, she may have been a great contributor to the Wolf Dog issues. Wolves do not need her ignorance to survive. What are they "Preserving"? This woman illegally solicits public donations to support her personal agenda, while there are many who go through the pain staking process to obtain legal status for charitable funds to support rescue and abused animals. this woman lies about what she has, what she is doing, and breeds siblings to create more mouths to feed , claiming they are Wolves? Numerous people including genetics experts, people who know her , and various other people who DO KNOW have confronted her , but to no avail. How can a self proclaimed educator refuse to learn? Her pure Wolves were bred to eachother. 2 pures would throw PURES, however the litter of pups have distinct Dog markings, were born with white strikes on foreheads, pink pads, , brown eyes, socks, etc. This Wolf expert cannot see it, because she is untrained, uneducated and refuses to admit her mistakes. So the misinformation will be passed on. In my attempt to call her on this, and even help her , it has provoked her to attack me by way of my host. Her lies have become bigger as she claims I am the only person who has ever brought this up, that I don't know what I'm talking about. I have now been contacted by 7 people who said she responded with hostility to them also. This is not an educator, this is a tragedy that is at high risk of disaster. A woman who is adamantly against Wolf Dogs and breeding them, and that is exactly what she does, and what she has. Deliberately Inbred to boot. Her story of how her Wolves came from a Vet who found one in a leg trap has been traced to nowhere. U.S. Wildlife authorities have been notified, and confirmed they are lies. Otherwise she (if true) has committed a crime . Posession of the offspring of illegally obtained wildlife, illegally transported from state to state, perhaps even country to country if Canada was involved? Trapping is a felony as well. Truly a sad story of foolishness. How to evaluate Wolves http://www.wolfechovalley.com/paws4thought.html The term HYBRID has been widely misused when referring to the Wolf/Dog mixed breeds. Truth is , A "Hybrid" is a cross between 2 species. The Wolf and the Dog are 1 species. In 1992 scientists reclassified the Wolf /Dog and made the term Hybrid obsolete when referring to Wolf / Dog cross..However many people still use the term, and it may be hard to shake. Wolfdogs are a controversial subject. The Wolf has been given a bad rap since "Little Red Riding Hood". People believe the Wolf is a dangerous animal that will attack you. In reality the Wolf is timid and unsociable towards humans. Other than to protect itself or it's young, a Wolf will do anything in it's power to avoid human contact. So why would anyone want a Wolf? Can they be tamed to live with human contact? Truth is, all of that depends on YOU. Are you qualified ? A Wolfdog will grow quite fast. Faster than most breeds, he can be 100 pounds by 8 months old. If he doesn't know anything by then, you might have a sad situation? Someone somewhere decided to breed the Wolf Dog cross to attempt to socialize the Wolf? Toughen up the Dog? or simply an experiment gone awry? Truth is, all dogs are relatives of the Wolf. 90 some years ago, the German Shepherd was bred from Wolves. In the U.S. today there are an estimated 300,000 Wolfdogs. A great percentage of that figure are animals in rescue facilities, sanctuaries, or in trouble and close to being killed by those who believe the Wolfdog to be a dangerous and vicious beast. Truth is, Man tends to destroy anything he cannot understand, control, or maintain without effort. In the early 70's after the movie "The Doberman Gang" and TV show in Hawaii with Tom Selleck ??? Dobermans were being bred by the millions all across the country. They were the new throw away spontaneous purchase, by people not qualified or ready to commit to ownership. As a result they flooded the animal shelters, were tied in yards on chains, and put to sleep by the hundreds because there were no homes for them. A few dog bites, and the Doberman quickly became labelled as the BAD DOG of the century. In the 80's the drug dealers, and tough boys, and others with social issues discovered the PIT BULL Dog. A strong and loyal and easily trained animal that would kill anything if taught that. The Pit Bull made history as the most banned breed in U.S. metropolis's. Millions are killed in shelters every year still. In the 90's, the Rottweiller joined the ranks of the unwanted pets. Although not ranking anywhere near the number of Pit Bulls. It is the Wolfdogs now that are in trouble. Greedy and unqualified breeders have surfaced all over the country. Animals that have no or little Wolf genes, claimed to be just to make a buck off an ignorant egotistical generation of wannabe Wolf owners. Truth is, People are the real problem. Dogs cannot defend themselves, why not blame every human shortcoming on the dog? THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO EDUCATE THOSE WHO DO CARE, AND WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE ABOUT WOLFDOG OWNERSHIP, HANDLING AND CONTAINMENT. To begin, aquireing a Wolfdog is not something everyone should do. There are many things to know about any large dog, and a Wolfdog is generally a very large dog. Depending on how a pup is handled, usually young enough that it is socialized to humans immediately can make 100% of the difference. Wolfdogs grow extremely fast, and can be 100 plus lbs before they are a year old. Some Wolfdogs inherit certain Wolf genes and instinctive characteristics. They can jump straight up 6 ft. without running. They can dig huge holes or tunnels very quickly. They can climb unlike any dog I have ever seen. And they will sometimes inherit the prey drive. Why do Wolfdogs get a bad rap? PEOPLE!!! It starts with the breeders. A good breeder will breed for not only the wolf appearance, but good temperament is an absolute issue. A good breeder will not sell to unqualified owners, as it reflects not only on the entire breed, but it is likely they have a moral and emotional connection to their animals. A good breeder will often take back animals that don't work out in the new home, or help in placement. Seldom does a good breeder turn away from one of his/her animals in trouble. A good breeder will raise the pups for their first few weeks inside, being handled and bottle fed, as the Wolfdog of any significant content will not be social to humans if not handled early enough. A good breeder only breeds if all pups are already promised to qualified buyers. If the season yields no buyers, the breeder skips that season. Breeders who have large enclosures full of animals as many do, are likely to be trying to make money breeding. Therefore the quality of their pups is poor, the care of their pups is poor, and they will lie to you about what they actually are. Most people new to Wolfdogs, and many who believe they know, get stung by bad breeders. Northern dog breeds such as Malamutes, Huskies, and often German Shepherd mixes are passed off as Wolfdogs more often than not. Know what to look for in a pup. Multicolored pups are not Wolfdogs. Wolfdogs of any significant content are only whelped in March or April, regardless of any other myths that may be handed you by a puppy mill. These people have official looking papers. They will have signed documents from a Vet who makes plenty from their yearly business. They will show you high content Wolfdog parents and tell you that is where your pup is from. Vets have no ability to evaluate canines. it isn't their job. Very few Vets will question your animals as to what they are. All Canines have the same physical make up and a Vet is there to keep them healthy. If you tell them it's a Wolf, then to them it's a Wolf. These breeder animal abusers are found all over, but one of the worst is in Texas. He claims to have a certain % of Wolf content and his animals are plain and simply a mess of whatever happens as they breed in packs of 20 or more at a time. The highest content Wolfdog he has are maybe 30% which is rare. Beware this breeder . His animals are subject to various health issues, and some can infect your entire kennel if you have other animals. Another bad breeder is in Brooksville Florida. He will use reverse psychology by teaching you how to tell a Wolf "Hybrid" . He claims Arctic Timberwolves? What he has is mixed German Shepherds. Over 13 of his animals are in rescues so far which he refuses to acknowledge. By claiming his animals are Wolves, he feeds the ego problem of the buyer who boasts that he has a Wolf. In no time the animal is in a shelter from getting loose or because the buyer failed to train the pup and cannot handle it. The Wolf label jeopardizes the animal's life, as Animal Control will not take Wolfdogs or adopt them out. Even though the animal is a mutt, the experts at animal control have no clue what to look for or how to handle the labeled "Wolf". Most animal control employees wouldn't know a Wolf from a Cocker Spaniel. A NC breeder promotes 91% pure Timberwolves? It doesn't even make sense. If something is pure, it is pure. Not a percentage pure?? They claim the Male is a pure black, and they likely believe it as they have no idea what a pure animal looks like or how to phenotype Wolfdogs. What right do they have to be breeding more unwanted pups that will eventually end up in rescues labeled as WOLVES. Looking at photos of the "Pure Wolf" , it is the opinion of many knowledgeable people that he is a low to mid GS/Husky mix. This breeder is in southern mid NC in a town called Hamlet. Something Acres? They use an image of a Malamute mix to advertise. They spell Wolfdog backwards and that is the kennel name. Beware a Texas breeder who claims Mexican Red Wolf / Malamute cross. These are Malamutes. No Mexican Red Wolfdogs are available. There is also no such thing as Russian Black Wolves. Mexican Red Wolves are small, short haired, endangered, and illegal to posess. His animals are mutts. Now understand that you might get a great puppy from any one of these people listed above, but you are not likely to get what they say it is. While I love all animals, some people insist on getting what they want. The simple label "Wolf" puts the dog in an immediately dangerous situation. Therefore a Malamute or Husky pup that you claim is a Wolf, will likely end up dead or in rescue depending on a variety of things. I highly recommend getting a Malamute and calling it a Malamute. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING? There are highly educated people in the Wolfdog world. These people are often Rescuers, and there are some very good knowledgeable breeders as well. I will list them for you, but you will likely not just obtain a pup as easy as going to your local Humane Society. Good Breeders want a home check, a background on your ability to handle their pups, and proper containment. You also need to know the local and state laws where you intend to have the animal. Good breeders don't breed by the dozens, and their pups are only whelped in spring March - April every year. It is in the best interest of all Wolfdogs and owners to be responsible. Every time a Wolfdog gets loose, it ends up in the media. Wolfdogs require escape proof containment. They are smart, strong, and able to escape if they are not content. It is recommended that they are kept in pairs to keep them from loneliness when you cannot be there with them. It is recommended that if you do not have at least 2 hours a day to spend with your Wolfdogs that you get a Goldfish instead. Pairing your animals is also a delicate process. A male/female is usually a given, but nothing is etched in stone with any animal. Humans cannot read a dog's mind. A proper Wolfdog enclosure is 2000 or more square feet, with 8 ft fences or 45 degree leaned in tops, a dig guard to prevent tunneling, and double gates with a catch area if the animal slips through your legs when entering. These enclosures are expensive. The bigger the better. If interested in enclosures, email us for a list of tips on how to build various types. How to save money, and the tricks of building the best for your animals. Wolfdogs need shelter in their enclosures. A warm dry place in Winter, and a cool place in summer. They need plenty of water to drink and to play in. They need a low profile location to prevent being teased, taunted, or complained about by idiots who are afraid. Away from noisy streets, traffic, and sirens. Sirens will cause endless howling. What happens if Wolfdogs escape, varies with where you are located. Most often then not, the animal is shot and killed if it is loose more than a few hours. PEOPLE are often IDIOTS and sometimes idiots have guns. Wolfdogs require a Soy free diet, and raw meat and bone, fur, some will eat feathers. Depending on their Wolf content diet is critical to their longevity and growth. GOOD BREEDERS A good Wolfdog breeder has had years of experience with Wolfdogs, and the idea is to produce an animal that looks as much like a Wolf as possible and has a temperament that allows easier human interaction. Although Wolfdogs are Dogs, the genetics are NEVER predictable, and a Wolfdog's personality is rarely a duplicate of any other. Like Wolves, they are all slightly different and equally as admirable. If they are 98% Wolf, they are Dogs. These are my OPINIONS. It is not written that these are the only good breeders, or that I am recommending them in any way, as I do not personally know any of them, and my experiences and knowledge are my only advisers. I do have an animal myself by one of them and she is a high quality bred and handled pup. She is not however a house pet in any sense, but with time , training and patience, she may well be some day. The Wolfdog world is ego plagued, and you may encounter many people who give bad advice. Many breeders who may think they have quality animals and don't truly know the truth, because they have been buffaloed from the beginning by someone else. Bad information and knowledge seems to travel faster than good. Why is that? While I prefer to see people adopt animals in need, I realize many will still insist on raising a pup. If that is your firm intention, I urge you to seek as much advice in as many different places as possible. If we stop the madness, we make a difference. Over 8 million pets are put to sleep every year in the U.S. due to no homes. If that doesn't make you cry, you have no business buying or adopting any animal. If you are a first time Wolfdog seeker, I highly recommend rescuing an older animal that has a known personality. http://www.liquinet.com/wolfdogadoption/index2.html The animals here have all been evaluated by people who know. It is my personal opinion and wish, that the breeding of most Wolfdogs be stopped and that good breeders would be regulated. If you are insistant about getting a pup, you should know what you are doing. How to obtain the right animal for you, what to expect, and how to contain it properly. These breeders are some of the best there is. There may be others that I am not familiar with, however you will know more after reading these pages to decide. It doesn't mean you are going to get a pet quality Wolfdog. It only means you are going to get a Wolfdog and not a Husky. However if you have no experience, a Husky might be a better choice. In these uncertain times, it is my wish that all breeding be stopped. Each week we are experiencing a tragic number of rescues. Please consider adopting a rescued Wolf Dog. Aug 3, 2008 There are more Wolfdogs in distress now than ever before. We ask that ALL breeders STOP until this changes. Nevada http://www.konnections.com/wolf1/ Ohio http://www.geocities.com/wolfhaugen_kennels/ WindDancer Ohio http://www.freewebs.com/winddancerwolves/index.htm Finest temperments for High Contents Wolves-USA , Texas , Bobby (extremely high content, well bred animals that are as close to pure Wolves as you can legally own. Some states may be illegal. I have always heard good things about this breeder. Again, experienced handlers. Noblepaws , Canada, Skylar High contents to low contents. also recommended for adoption connections High Hills Kennels , SC, Rick & Sharon These are breeders who I recommend for high content well bred animals. Learn as much as you possibly can before you make this decision, as it is a 15 year commitment. DO NOT be a part of the Wolfdog problem. Do not attempt to breed, or dump your animals because you cannot care for them, or turn them loose in the woods thinking they will survive on their own. A well bred Wolfdog will cost you 1000. to 2500. dollars. . Many so called puppy mills breed animals that look like? to the untrained Wolfdog buyer, you are likely being duped. There are NO RED WOLVES being crossed or pure RED WOLVES available to breed or to own. If you are not prepared for rates that high, rescue is often free. Call on us to rescue a Wolfdog. Requirements are as mentioned above. If you do purchase a pup, a high quality pup will have many advantages as well as challenges. A bottle fed pup will be easier to start with, but don't plan on buying new furniture if you intend to keep them in the house. Wolfdogs scent mark by rubbing against, urinating, defacating, or all of the formentioned. Not the ideal lapdog. Wolfdogs take things, all things that are available, loose or not loose. To chew, bury, or just to have. Don't try to take them back without something to trade. To the Wolfdog, possession is law. Simply because you buy a well bred hand fed pup that is socialized, playful, and loves you, is no indication of what it will do as an adult. That may depend greatly on the animal's genetic makeup. It is difficult if not impossible to predict. An adult may become distant, unresponsive, or simply different than what you became accustomed to. Time with your Wolfdog is essential always to maintain a good bond. No breeder can actually guarantee the % of Wolf in any pup. Genetics are a science that is difficult to understand. A litter of pups in no way makes all of the pups the same % of Wolf or Dog other than the paperwork mathematics. A pure Wolf and a pure Dog equal 50% Wolf right? NOPE.......not always a fact. How to handle the Alpha Challenge? Are you ready for the day when you are challenged for seniority by your pal? Will you recognize it in time? How will you react? What are the ramifications for failure on your part? (read below) contact me for contacts of animal handlers who can answer most questions. info@sjblues.com Can you tell a wolf from a Wolfdog? a Northern Breed? Husky, malamute ? See Also the ARCTIC myth gallery. As we have encountered several owners lead to believe they have pure Arctics. Arctic Wolves are endangered. Arctic Wolfdogs are rarely legally owned privately if at all. There are but a few top breeders that have Arctics or Arctic crosses. Most who claim they do are selling White German Shepherds. Images below are why there are so many screwed up ideas about Wolfdogs. We have all been wrong about some, but these are the extremes about lying to impress people and jeopardizing the well being of the dog by doing so. Wolves are feared by ignorance, and ignorance is the backbone of government operations involving animal issues. Aside from Veterinarians, there are NO government employees required to know anything. Hence, dog claimed to be Wolf gets shot. In the "which is" group there are 3 images of pure Wolves. ONE OF THE BEST WEBSITES TO READ http://www.wolfdog.ws

LOADS OF HYPE
Want to get confused even more? Breeders of animals form their own organizations to make them sound more official. They then can hand you a bunch of nonsense on paper to back up their BS. there is NWHA , WWWR, AWBA, AWHA, USWHA, NADA, WHRA, and many more that will dazzle you with official papers for your pup. Quoted percentage of Wolf genetics is most often BS. The only known Wolf % is 50% if one parent is pure and the other is dog. Unless you are a genetics genius, there is no % meter, and a litter of first generation Wolf Dogs can be all different %s. What they do have in common is the F or Filial number 1. That is first generation. F2 is second generation. Beyond F3 there is seldom a need to be concerned about %. To know the % of Wolf / Dog is only a guess based on the upline of an animal. Anyone who guarantees you a % is simply guessing. ie: in theory, 2 98% parents will produce a 96%. A pure and a 75% will produce a 87%. A 75% and a 50% produce a 63% and so on. But it isn't a scientific fact, as genetics play tricks. Rumors that Wolves and Wolfdogs are easy to raise are often brought upon by those who were spoofed at the puppy purchase stage. So many breeders have become savvy to lookalikes that bring higher dollars. The AGOUTI or Slick Willie Husky is a ringer for a Wolf to the untrained, or even those who know. (click here and come right back) haha http://huskycolors.com/agouti.html http://huskycolors.com/wolf.html Another dead give away is that Wolves do not carry the blue eye gene. Although wolf pups may have blue eyes, they grow away as the animal ages. Wolves will have green , gold eyes., light brown to red brown eyes are indication of dog genetics . Low content Wolfdogs mixed with Husky sometimes have blue eyes. Mid content Wolfdogs generally red brown to deep brown. It is not etched in stone that yellow eyes cannot appear in lower content Wolf dogs. Here is other excellent websites to read. http://www.wildsentry.org/hybrid.html http://www.cottonwoodz.com/ http://www.cottonwoodz.com/information/info1.htm http://www.cottonwoodz.com/information/buyerbeware.htm http://www.idir.net/~wolf2dog/gsd1.htm http://www.casalobo.com/ http://www.nal.usda.gov/awic/newsletters/v5n4/5n4wille.htm -- Frank Wendland from http://www.wolfsanctuary.net/ 1. We don't believe that any human can own a sentient being.
2. We believe wolves, wolf-dogs and domestic dogs all fit the sentient being category.
3. We believe that humans can make good care-takers or custodians for certain sentient beings if they truly accept that being for what it is and provide an environment that accommodates their individual needs.
4. We don't believe most humans are prepared to do what it takes to provide for the well-being of these spirits.
5. We believe that wild animals should not be captive or contained as it is a severe compromise of their natural needs and their spirit, no matter how hard their caretakers try to accommodate those needs.
With all of that said, we now have all the gray areas that make it very difficult to give black and white answers to. Especially with wolf-dogs, who run the gamut from very suitable to living with humans to very unsuitable to living with humans. Consequently we try very hard to look at each situation separately and each animal as an individual with their own personality and unique character.
1. There are obviously a tremendous number of wild animals in captivity already and we believe they have a right to live out their lives in an environment that accommodates as many of their needs as is possible.
2. If a human does not truly understand what the needs of the being are or cannot or will not provide for those needs -- they should NOT be a care-taker.
3. Selective breeding to develop a suitable individual for captive living is a very horrible concept and does not take into account the individuals involved.
4. Most humans perceive wolves, wolf-dogs and domestic dogs as disposable commodities for them to with as they please.
Taking all of these factors into account, we believe that the spirits of these captive wild beings have something that they are desperately trying to teach humans -- even if those lessons must be learned through very tragic experiences. We therefore do not judge anyone, but hope, pray and work our butts off to help humans evolve to a new level of understanding about these amazing spirits.
-- THE ALPHA CHALLENGE Please email me your personal experiences along with a good photo of your dog. Any breed. keep an open mind, that these issues are not solely Wolfdog issues. Canines are all eligible and all are different. Wolfdogs are simply intelligent and more likely to test you. Seldom if ever will they not warn you first. Learn to read them. Learn to respond in safe and responsible manner. My personal experiences, a few of many. My first Wolfdog was an accident. I assumed I was rescuing a Husky mix through a local animal shelter. She was 4 months old and had most of the Husky personality issues. Vocal, and mouthing as most Northern breeds. As she grew, her mannerisms became confusing to me. She would steal things and hide them. I simply thought it was cute. At around a year old, the issues became concerning to me as she aggressively held me down on the floor while playing. Her personality did a 360 in 1 second. My response was to immediately roll her over and hold her down on her back, her head sideways so she couldn't snap. She did try to fight back for a few seconds. I had no idea if I had handled that right or not. It didn't happen again for quite some time. A few months later she had managed to climb up onto a platform in a seagrape tree, that I had built for my girlfriend's son. As I approached her to pet her, she placed her front foot on my shoulder and bared her teeth with a growl. Again my response was triggered from previous dog training experiences, to return the challenge by showing her that I was bigger, faster, and stronger. This time she got a piece of me. I had never experienced this kind of thing with any other dog up until this time. Although there are many dogs that will snap if they fear something, or simply because they are allowed to rule the roost, and know they can get over on their owners. This was different, and I had not yet figured it out. Months later I saw a dog sitting in a back seat of a car with Colorado tags. It looked like a Wolf. So I walked closer to see. She just stared at me and didn't bark or act aggressively, so I moved with in a few feet to get a closer look. My dog was in my truck just a few spaces away. In minutes the owner of the car was behind me saying, "Careful, she hasn't eaten yet today". We proceeded to talk and he told me she was a Wolf Hybrid. It was 1990, and the term Hybrid was still official. He looked at my dog after a lengthy conversation, and it was that day that the mystery was somewhat solved. He guessed her to have some direct lineage that would classify her as a Wolf Hybrid. He explained some of the physical characteristics, and during the explanation, touched on the clue as to the "eye level" challenge for dominance. It was that day that my relationship with "Chilliwack" changed forever. The mere understanding gave me the respect that was needed for us to share space. She became my best friend. Knowing the eye level issue, I avoided it always, and eventually she never challenged me again. This may or may not have been a Wolfdog issue? All dogs have their personalities, and there is no one thing that truly is etched in stone with any breed. The difference in my opinion, is that Wolfdogs are smarter, stronger, and more determined to win. ----- READ http://www.idir.net/~wolf2dog/wild_002.htm
